Observations on the Hudson River as it passes through New York City. The section of the Hudson which passes through New York is historically known as the North River, called this by the Dutch to distinguish it from the Delaware River, which they knew as the South River. This stretch of the Hudson is still often referred to as the North River by local mariners today. All photos copyright Daniel Katzive unless otherwise attributed. Saturday brought the annual jet ski invasion, a mass gathering of personal water craft circumnavigating Manhattan in a clockwise direction. Its a great day not to be on the water if you don’t have to be, unless you have a jet ski. Also in town was a 340’ Canadian navy patrol ship, the Harry de Wolf, docked on the south side of Pier 88 on a tour of the northeast coast. Otherwise the final days of the work week and the start of the weekend brought typical traffic with a heavy Reinauer component.
