A cargo of Spanish gypsum moved up the North River Wednesday aboard the Swiss-flagged 650-foot bulk ship Lausanne. They were heading for the wallboard plant in Buchanan, NY. As usual, a pair of Moran tugs came up the river ahead of time to help with docking at the factory. Lausanne is one of only about a dozen ocean-going Swiss-flagged ships, all of which are bulkers. Her homeport is Basel but she would be unable to ever have visited that inland facility which is serviced by inland vessels.
