A visit from the Cutter Oak

Two days after our local coastal buoy tender Katherine Walker travelled north of the GWB to attend to some errant buoys, the much larger 225-foot seagoing tender Oak passed through heading upriver. Oak is based in Newport RI and is the “Maine Responder,” spending most of her time along the rocky shores of that state. The cutter may be heading up to join ice breaking operations up north. Warmed moist air moved in above the cold water in New York City on Friday, keeping a layer of fog over the river.
