Observations on the Hudson River as it passes through New York City. The section of the Hudson which passes through New York is historically known as the North River, called this by the Dutch to distinguish it from the Delaware River, which they knew as the South River. Brinn Courtney, a Stasinos 1,800 HP tug built in 1966, was on the North River this past week maneuvering barges at the Gateway Tunnel cofferdam off Pier 66, more formally known as the Hudson River Ground Stabilization Project. The floor of the river is being reinforced with concrete slurry at this point so that tunnel boring machines will be able to dig through. Sunday morning finds Brinn tied up at a pier in Bayonne.
