Observations on the Hudson River as it passes through New York City. The section of the Hudson which passes through New York is historically known as the North River, called this by the Dutch to distinguish it from the Delaware River, which they knew as the South River. A survey team was working in the shuttered 79th Street Boat Basin Marina in late March, perhaps a sign that the long-awaited rebuilding project currently in the permitting phase is getting closer to starting construction. With 79th Street out of action since 2021, the Dyckman Street Marina uptown now closed for rebuilding, and the North Cove Marina downtown closed due to flood resiliency work, boating facilities on the Manhattan side of the North River are increasingly few and far between.
