The big Kirby Cape Henry/DBL 103 ATB came up the North River as winds picked up Thursday. The barge looked loaded but they weren’t continuing north with the cargo, just anchored for a while off Edgewater before returning to the Kills.

Moving through ice
Stephen Reinauer/RTC 61 moved through floating ice on the North River Thursday. The barge had a fuel cargo bound for a terminal in Albany. Stephen was back in New York Harbor before midnight Saturday night.

Watching the traffic
The big Reinauer Twins / RTC 104 ATB spent some time anchored in the rain on the North River off Guttenberg last week, watching passing traffic. Wind against tide

A 20-knot southwest wind was blowing straight up the North River on Thursday morning, creating some chop as it ran against the ebb tide. Cape Canaveral / DBL 101 left anchorage and headed for the Upper Bay.

Under the cliffs
Timothy Reinauer / RTC 84 had a nice spot to anchor heading into the weekend, seen Friday below the Palisades off Englewood Cliffs with Rockefeller Lookout visible above.

Fresh paint
The Kirby Cape Canaveral/DBL 101 ATB came up the North River on Wednesday to anchor. They were coming from the GMD Shipyard in the Brooklyn Navy Yard where they may have been having some work done.

Braving the wind
The collection of tug/barges sheltering from the wind on the North River began to break up Saturday afternoon, with two loaded Vane barges brought to their product destinations. Meanwhile, Reinauer Transportation was busy moving product north on the Hudson.

No room at the inn
After an overnight lull, winds were back above 30 knots Saturday morning and North River anchorages were full, with tanker barge/tug combinations stretched out about a half mile apart from the Boat Basin north, with another two pairs past the bridge and one off Yonkers.

Picking up scrap

Strategic Spirit, a 610–foot Singapore flagged bulk ship came up the North River Wednesday morning. They were heading for the Sims Metal dock in Albany where they arrived Thursday afternoon and will presumably load scrap for export overseas.
