The Panama-flagged bulk ship Bulk Valor moved up the North River Tuesday en route to the Port of Coeymans. The 625-foot bulker was arriving from the Mediterranean carrying much needed road salt as local press up north has reported tight supplies amid persistent icy cold conditions.

The Chios Sunrise, a 625-foot Marshall Islands-flagged bulk ship, entered the icy North River Thursday afternoon, passing Jersey City. The 655’ Hong Kong-flagged bulk ship Feng Shou Hai arrived on the North River Saturday from Algeria, heading for the Port of Coeymans with an unknown bulk cargo. The passed the Army Corp’s Gelberman on patrol for hazards to navigation.

Sweet Monday

A cargo of sugar arrived on the North River from the Dominican Republic just after sunrise on Monday morning aboard the Panama-flagged bulker Century Melody. They were heading for the refinery in Yonkers. The plant there has been operating for over 100 years and also receives domestic sugar deliveries via U.S. flagged barges.

A second bulk ship in a week came up the North River heading for Coeymans on Monday before Thanksgiving. Eva Istanbul was arriving from the Mediterranean with unknown cargo.

Heading for Coeymans
The 590-foot Panama-flagged bulk ship Tac Suzuka was on the North River heading for the Port of Coeymans in the rain Thursday morning. I don’t know the cargo or whether they were perhaps heading up to load scrap. The towers of Journal Square are visible in the fog in the background.

Picking up scrap

Strategic Spirit, a 610–foot Singapore flagged bulk ship came up the North River Wednesday morning. They were heading for the Sims Metal dock in Albany where they arrived Thursday afternoon and will presumably load scrap for export overseas.
