Joker’s wild
Hays Tug Joker came down the North River Tuesday morning with a high-sided hopper loaded with stone, coming down from the quarry dock in Hudson, NY. Joker seems to be doing a fair amount of Hudson River work this year. By Wednesday morning, Joker was already heading back north up the river.

Tuesday March 19–exit winter
The final days of winter felt like spring, but the first day of spring felt like winter, with winds gusting over 30 knots in the Upper Bay and temperatures in the 40s. North River anchorages filled up, with tanker barges perhaps escaping the wind.

A winter nor’easter brought wind and snow to the region. Observable traffic was limited in poor visibility through the morning, but by afternoon the sun was out and the snow was quickly melting.

Observed weekend traffic was mainly local boats, particularly on Sunday, with most of the through traffic coming by on Saturday. Winds picked up during the day Sunday making for another great day of sailing. The John J. Harvey restored fireboat was back on the North River, always good to see.
