Ruby Coast ran light up the North River on Saturday afternoon. Ruby was returning from visiting the facilities on the Kill van Kull, rejoining a sugar barge left tied up at the refinery in Yonkers. She passed the Kirby Cape Hatterals/DBL 81 ATB anchored off North Bergen.

Pushing and pulling
Dann Marine’s Chesapeake Coast came up the North River with the Chesapeake barge loaded on Wednesday and anchored north of the bridge. Friday afternoon, the crew configured for towing astern and headed for the Narrows and out of town, heading south. By Saturday morning they are clearing Cape May.

Private ports
Haugland Group towboat Miss Madeline was northbound on the North River Wednesday with a pair of hopper barges. A black cargo was visible in one, perhaps asphalt millings. At the coffer dam
Weeks Marine’s tug Robert was maneuvering barges at the Gateway Tunnel coffer dam site off Pier 66 on Monday. The project is reinforcing the riverbed at this spot so that the Gateway rail tunnel will be able to pass underneath.

Below the cliffs, amidst the ice
The Vane Brothers tug Philadelphia and barge DS 601 have spent the past few days anchored amid the ice flows on the North River. In the photo, they are sitting below the cliffs of the Bergen Hill in North Bergen on Wednesday.

Moving through ice
NY State Marine Highway’s Nathan G moved up the North River through ice flows with a hopper barge Wednesday. This week has seen the most significant ice accumulation on the lower Hudson in years.

Working weekend
A new floating drydock constructed at the Feeney Shipyard in Kingston NY was brought down the North River Saturday evening by Stasinos Marine and delivered to its owners, Hughes Marine, at their base in Erie Basin. Waiting for paper
Paul Andrew was standing by with a waste paper scow at DSNY’s Pier 99 transfer station on Tuesday morning. Waste paper collected in Manhattan is brought from here to a recycling mill on Staten Island along the Arthur Kill.

Patrice McAllister had RCM 262 on the hip as she left anchorage and headed for the Upper Bay on a sunny Friday morning this week.
