Wind against tide

A 20-knot southwest wind was blowing straight up the North River on Thursday morning, creating some chop as it ran against the ebb tide. Cape Canaveral / DBL 101 left anchorage and headed for the Upper Bay.

On Wednesday afternoon at slack tide, Genesis Energy’s Spirit brought barge GM 11105 up the North River as far as Guttenberg. The Kirby Cape Canaveral/DBL 101 ATB came up the North River on Wednesday to anchor. They were coming from the GMD Shipyard in the Brooklyn Navy Yard where they may have been having some work done.

Glory Glory

Braving the wind
The collection of tug/barges sheltering from the wind on the North River began to break up Saturday afternoon, with two loaded Vane barges brought to their product destinations. Meanwhile, Reinauer Transportation was busy moving product north on the Hudson.

No room at the inn
After an overnight lull, winds were back above 30 knots Saturday morning and North River anchorages were full, with tanker barge/tug combinations stretched out about a half mile apart from the Boat Basin north, with another two pairs past the bridge and one off Yonkers.

Hays Tug Joker came down the North River Tuesday morning with a high-sided hopper loaded with stone, coming down from the quarry dock in Hudson, NY. Joker seems to be doing a fair amount of Hudson River work this year. By Wednesday morning, Joker was already heading back north up the river.
