Observations on the Hudson River as it passes through New York City. The section of the Hudson which passes through New York is historically known as the North River, called this by the Dutch to distinguish it from the Delaware River, which they knew as the South River. Wednesday brought another tug I’ve not seen before up the North River. Donny F McAllister, who I believe normally works out of Philadelphia, has been at the McAllister yard on Staten Island this summer and this week she took a short run upriver as far as Englewood before coming back, at first a speed, outpacing the ebb current, and then drifting beam to the ebb for a bit before returning to base. If she came up to New York for work, perhaps this was trials (just a guess).
