Observations on the Hudson River as it passes through New York City. The section of the Hudson which passes through New York is historically known as the North River, called this by the Dutch to distinguish it from the Delaware River, which they knew as the South River. The Donjon Marine heavy tug Douglas J (4,800 HP) brought the company’s massive Chesapeake 1000 crane down the North River on Friday, with the low-slung tug J. Arnold Witte providing an escort. The crane was being brought back from a heavy-lift job at the Port of Albany, perhaps moving a piece of heavy GE equipment from the dock to the barge brought north by the Tradewinds tug Carol, with Carol now on her way back down river and heading to the Gulf, though I’m not sure.
