Observations on the Hudson River as it passes through New York City. The section of the Hudson which passes through New York is historically known as the North River, called this by the Dutch to distinguish it from the Delaware River, which they knew as the South River. The bulk ship Orient Focus, 620 feet long and Portugal flagged, came down the North River in ballast Saturday morning heading for sea after departing the Sims Metal dock in Albany. The bulker’s reported draft increased while in port and, having arrived there from northern Chile, she may have discharged a cargo of salt, a lot of which seems to be moving through that facility this summer. Her next destination is reported as New Orleans where she will presumably load a new cargo for export.
