Observations on the Hudson River as it passes through New York City. The section of the Hudson which passes through New York is historically known as the North River, called this by the Dutch to distinguish it from the Delaware River, which they knew as the South River. Another new cutter

The Coast Guard’s newest Fast Response Cutter, the Jeffrey Palazzo, arrived at North River Pier 86 (the Intrepid pier) on Wednesday ahead of a commissioning ceremony scheduled for Saturday. FRC 1163 is named for an FDNY firefighter and Coast Guard reservist who perished on September 11, one of 10 members of Staten Island-based Rescue 5 who died that day.

After commissioning, the Palazzo will head for Guam where she will be home-ported alongside the FRC Danz, named after an NYPD officer and Coast Guard reservist who lost his life on 9/11 and which we saw commissioned at Pier 86 in May. The Palazzo is available for tours Friday and Sunday 10 to 5pm and Saturday 2pm to 5pm.
