Observations on the Hudson River as it passes through New York City. The section of the Hudson which passes through New York is historically known as the North River, called this by the Dutch to distinguish it from the Delaware River, which they knew as the South River. Collecting metal

The bulk ship Seastar Valiant came up the North River last week bound for the Port of Coeymans. The 590-foot vessel was in ballast on the way up and reported draft increased while at the pier so she likely loaded scrap metal for export up there. By Saturday she was on her way to the Delaware River where she is currently tied up at the scrap dock in Camden, NJ, probably loading more metal. The scrap will ultimately head overseas, probably to Turkey, and may come back to us here as rebar or other metal products.
