Observations on the Hudson River as it passes through New York City. The section of the Hudson which passes through New York is historically known as the North River, called this by the Dutch to distinguish it from the Delaware River, which they knew as the South River. Vane tug Fells Point was visible on the north side of North River Pier 88 on Tuesday, heading back to the south side to retrieve a bunkering barge that had been left alongside a visiting cruise ship there. Fells Point is New York Harbor-based, about 12 years old with 3,000 HP. The historic Weehawken water tower is visible in the background. The tug is currently tucked in at Vane’s Gowanus Bay base Saturday evening as the sun sets and the nor’easter moves through the harbor.
